Coupled Model applied on Mediterranean Area Paola Faggian * , Dario Ronzio * , Vincenzo Artale**, Alessandro Dell’Aquila** Gianmaria Sannino**, Adriana Carillo** Joint Assembly MOCA-09 Montreal, 19-29 Luglio 2009 POSTER SESSION * ERSE SpA ** ENEA CASACCIA ROMA In the framework of European CIRCE Project, whose object is to describe the climate change in the Mediterranean area and to give some information about environmental impacts, the Regional Coupled Model PROTHEUS (composed by the RegCM atmospheric regional model and by the MITgcm oceanic model, coupled with OASIS3) has been applied over the Mediterranean Basin (-10, 40 °E; 22 , 57 °N), with a spatial resolution of about 30km. We analyzed how moisture is processed at the land surface for understanding the modelled moisture budget and its variation with climate change. Basic quantities, as precipitation and runoff, are compared with observation-base estimates. Modelled mean precipitation and runoff compare well with observations although some discrepancy remains.
