of particles and gases in thermoelectric power plants exhausts Elena Golinelli*, Sergio Musazzi*, Umberto Perini* AISEM 2007- The 12th National Conference on Sensors and Microsystems Napoli, 12-14 Febbraio 2007 * CESI RICERCA We present a novel non intrusive optical system for the on-line characterization of coal fired power plants flue gases. The system carries out both real time particle sizing of solid particles (in the range 0.1 – 10 µm) and concentration measurements of chemical species (as small as few ppm) downstream the electrostatic precipitators. The principle of operation relies on a multi – wavelength extinction technique based on the measurement of the extinction coefficient as a function of the illuminating wavelength.
