THE ELECTRIFICATION OF THE ISOLATED MOUNTAIN COMMUNITY OF VAL CODERA (ITALY) Salvatore Guastella, Fabrizio Paletta CESI – Via Rubattino 54, 20314 Milano, Italy guastella@cesi.it, paletta@cesi.it, www.cesi.it – www.ricercadisistema.it ABSTRACT: The work deals with the development and the evaluation of innovative Renewable Energy hybrid systems for rural electrification of remote areas, i.e. small islands, mountain zones, developing regions. Innovative components for RE hybrid systems have been selected and analysed at CESI test facility, supplying results useful for the improvement of these components. Then a RE hybrid system has been installed and is in evaluation at a real site. The project, funded by the Research Fund for Italian Electric System (RdS), established with Ministry of Industry Decree, aims at the analysis of the application of new concepts in the management of isolated communities’ electrification systems: flexibility to adapt to the existing power generators and capability to match changing habits of users when power supply is available continuously. At the same time, on-field tests let to verify the reliability of this system for use in remote areas. Keywords: Hybrid; Implementation; Rural Electrification.
