Increasing presence of harmonics due to loads more and more distorting and greater measurement accuracy demand bring the subject up for discussion again; the debate about definition to be used is a topical one. The present paper illustrates the “Park” approach and definitions for reactive power under distorted conditions; Park approach is used to analyse laboratory test data obtained for commercially available meters under various distortion condition and to compare them to results obtained with traditional definition: significant discrepancies were found in results obtained with the different approaches in some test cases.
