Power System Component Efficiency and Energy Delivery Effectiveness Designed for Minimal Environmental Impact

L’articolo riassume le attuali attività e le iniziative futire dela CIGRE sul tema dell’efficienza dei Sistemi Elettrici. Le aree di attività CIGRE sul tema sono quattro: (i) componenti ad alta efficienza, (ii) opzioni tecnologiche innovative, (iii) nuove configurazioni di rete e (iv) accumulo di energia.

This paper will summarise the current CIGRE work, review existing global energy hallenges and define a future role for CIGRE in the identification and deployment of energy efficient initiatives. Rising global energy demand, and specifically electricity demand, is concurrently increasing the imperative for improving energy efficiency. This requires an analysis of what role CIGRE can and should play in advancing energy efficient initiatives from a national level to an international policy approach. An overview of CIGRE’s position concerning emerging societal need – including economic, social and environmental – for energy efficient mechanisms will be discussed here. The paper’s scope of investigation will centre on augmenting power system efficiency. It will outline how CIGRE will respond. This will entail analyses and commentary on four technical areas in which CIGRE is positioned to provide expert advice on international and national approaches towards energy efficiency. These are: high efficiency equipment, emerging technological options, new network topologies, and energy storage. How these tools can be practically deployed to the power system will then be examined with regards to incorporating sustainability concerns into long-term decision making. The paper proposes that raising awareness of potential directions and their associated benefits from an impartial information source such as CIGRE will enhance national and international approaches towards energy efficiency.
