Predictive control of a plant for coproduction of power and hydrogen from coal

It is equipped with two gas turbines, one of which can be turned on/off depending one economic and technological objectives and constraints. The considered control problem consists of the optimal management of the plant. It is solved by first deriving an hybrid model of the overall system, i.e., a model with standard continuous variables and also Boolean variables describing the logical constraints to be fullfilled. Then, this model is used to determine the optimal control policy according to a moving horizon approach. Simulation results are reported to witness the potentialities of the proposed approach.
