infrastructure development in a pan-European power system Gianluigi Migliavacca* Transmission & Distribution Europe 2009 Barcellona, 17-19 Marzo 2009 PRESENTAZIONE POWER POINT * CESI RICERCA Aim of the presentation is first to provide a general overview of the European project REALISEGRID, which the author of this presentation acts as the coordinating person of. The spot is on the threefold target of the project: analysis of the most promising technologies to improve visibility and controllability of the transmission network (WAMS, FACTS, HVDC, ecc) and the possibility to integrate them into transmission planning procedures, study of the impact of different regulatory and socio-economic scenarios concerning the exchanges of electricity between the European Countries in a long term perspective using MARKAL-TIMES models, implementation of a set of methodologies and programs to show the benefits deriving from the expansion of the network infrastructures. About this last kind of investigation, REALISEGRID uses the REMARK methodology, developed at CESI RICERCA, to carry out a classification in terms cost/benefits of the most important projects belonging to axis "EL.2. Borders of Italy with France, Austria, Slovenia and Switzerland: increasing electricity interconnection capacities" of the Trans European Networks. The methodology REMARK is illustrated and framed within the literature on "transmission expansion".
