The durability of externally bonded CFRP strengthening applied to reinforced concrete structures rehabilitated by means of conventional repair, i.e. replacement of carbonated or chloride contaminated concrete with a repair mortar, was studied. The effect of humidity and temperature in the range of 20- 40°C was investigated on reinforced concrete beams repaired with mortar and strengthened with commercial laminates of CFRP applied by means of an epoxy-based structural adhesive. Cyclic flexural tests were carried on the beams as a function of time and of exposure to different conditions of temperature and humidity. The adhesion of the epoxy-based adhesive to the concrete or the repair mortar was evaluated by means of pull-off tests. Results show the influence of the base material (concrete or mortar), temperature, humidity and time on the performance of the CRFP strengthening. Critical conditions of temperature and humidity on the effectiveness of the structural adhesive is also discussed.
