Surrogate Data Testing to Detect Nonlinear Dynamics in Partial Discharge

In connection with the monitoring of insulation degradation of large power apparatus in order to predict their unexpected service failures, a statistical approach, such as “phase resolved partial discharge analysis” (PRPDA), has been established for the on-line monitoring system during the past decades.

Recently some author has shown that partial discharge can exhibit chaotic behavior. For this reason it is essential to test for determinism in the experimental data before attempting to estimate any invariants describing the dynamics of the Partial Discharges (PD) sources. In this paper we present a method for detecting determinism in the PD data for corona effect in air.
