    Technologies for the Control of Interconnected Power Systems

    Il presente capitolo, parte del volume “Monitoring, Control and Protection of Interconnected Power Systems” che descrive i principali risultati del progetto europeo ICOEUR, si concentra sulle caratteristiche tecniche di alcune tecnologie consolidate e innovative per la rete di trasmissione, come i Phase Shifting Transformers (PSTs), i controllori Flexible Alternating Current Transmission System (FACTS) e le infrastrutture in High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC).

    The present chapter, part of the book “Monitoring, Control and Protection of Interconnected Power Systems” which reports the main outcomes and results of the European project ICOEUR, focuses on the main technical characteristics of some mature and innovative transmission grid technologies, such as Phase Shifting Transformers (PSTs), Flexible Alternating Current Transmission System (FACTS) and High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) devices.

    These technologies, which can be classified as PFCs (Power Flow Controllers), may be of key support to the TSOs (Transmission System Operators): thanks to their features they are able to increase total transport capacity and improve system controllability and flexibility.
