considering realistic construction sequence – Synthesis of results and comments Massimo Meghella*, Antonella Frigerio 10th International Benchmark Workshop on Numerical Analysis of Dams Parigi, 16-18 Settembre 2009 * ERSE SpA Considering the average rate of participation in the previous workshops, the contributors to Theme A provided a sufficiently representative range of alternative and comparable solutions. Namely, two universities, a research company and a software developer/vendor are represented. The contributors have used three different computer codes, based on two different solution scheme (ABAQUS and DIANA on the implicit finite element method, FLAC-3D on the explicit finite difference method), two different analysis type (incremental linear elastic, incremental visco-elastic) and one participant has included and simulated the construction joints behaviour . Moreover, one participant (TNO) has modified the original mesh provided by the formulator. In this light, also considering the overall complexity of the problem which required the contributors a great deal of work for preparing and adapting the mesh according to real construction sequence of the casting layers and to process the results, the solutions here synthetically presented and thoroughly documented in the contributors papers, may provide a good reference for analysts and dam engineers, dealing with this kind of problem.
