Wet Compression on multistage compressors: set up of an experimental test facility and performance maps determination

L’articolo presenta una completa stazione di prova messa a punto con lo scopo di studiare, su modello in scala, il comportamento di un compressore multistadio alla Wet Compression. La stazione di prova messa a punto è installata presso il Dip. Di Ingegneria dell’Università di Ferrara con lo scopo di studiare eventuali effetti dannosi sul compressore a causa della quantità notevole di acqua iniettata. La memoria presenta anche i primi risultati ottenuti.

In this paper, an experimental facility for the investigation of wet compression on a multistage compressor developed at the University of Ferrara is presented. The aim of the facility is the assessment of long term effects of wet compression on compressor performance, with the final goal of highlighting possible erosion effects on industrial gas turbine compressors. The test facility and the system for water injection set up for the research activity are presented in detail. Then, compressor performance maps both in absence and presence of water injection are presented, for two different levels of injected water mass flow rate. By means of these data, it is possible to estimate compressor performance gain in terms of pressure ratio and corrected mass flow rate under wet conditions.
