    Chapter 1:HVDC Grid for Offshore Wind Exploitation

    Il capitolo presenta alcune delle attività svolte nell’ambito della Demo “DC grid” del progetto europeo di ricerca FP7 “TWENTIES” (2010-2013), e dei successivi sviluppi condotti dai partner, circa le soluzioni tecniche per la definizione e il controllo delle future reti HVDC per la connessione di grandi impianti eolici offshore alle reti AC continentali.

    This chapter presents some of the activities carried out within the research project TWENTIES (2010-2013) and subsequent developments carried out by partners, addressing technical solutions for the design and control of the future MTDC grids aimed to the connection of large offshore wind farms to the mainland AC systems.

    The work deals with the functions expected from HVDC grids, topological aspects, converters, operation and protection issues, and the ancillary services that the offshore wind farms can provide to the continental AC grids through the HVDC grids.
