Design of broadband and omnidirectional antireflection coatings for III-V concentrating multijunction solar cells

Presentiamo un’approfondita analisi teorica dei rivestimenti antiriflesso nanostrutturati (ARC) per il funzionamento a banda larga e omnidirezionale in celle solari multigiunzione III-V.

We present an in-depth theoretical analysis of nanostructured antireflection coatings (ARCs) for broadband and omnidirectional operation in III-V multijunction solar cells. We analyse the performance of nanostructured ARCs within three different models, namely an effective medium with a gradual variation of the average refractive index, a periodic nanostructure, and a fully random nanostructure.

We show that the effective medium structure generally outperforms the periodic and random ones, while the three models agree well with each other when the length scale of the nanostructures is much smaller than the wavelength of visible light. We discuss the expected improvement over the performance of the present “standard” ARC structure based on SiO2/Ta2O5 bilayers.
