The main results of the ORECCA (Off-shore Renewable Energy Conversion Platforms – Coordination Action) project are presented with a focus on Mediterranean and Black Sea Area. the WebGIS application developed by RSE in order to publish the results concerning the offshore renewables development is presented too.
The ORECCA (Off-shore Renewable Energy Conversion Platforms – Coordination Action) project, with a duration of 18 months, ended in August 2011. The goals of the ORECCA project have been to create a framework for knowledge sharing and to develop a roadmap for research activities in the context of offshore renewable energy. Within the ORECCA Project, the scope of the offshore renewable energy sector (“offshore renewables”) was confined to offshore wind, wave energy and tidal stream. The marine area considered is very wide: from Azores to Black Sea and from Iceland to Canaries. The information collected about the offshore renewable resources, bathymetry, EEZ, distance from shore, MPA, ports and offshore renewable plants in all European waters has been implemented in a GIS (Geographical Information System) and has been used for developing qualitative-quantitative scenarios for the single resource and for the combined resources too. The main results for the Mediterranean area will be presented. After the end of the project, a WebGIS application, sponsored by RSE, has been developed in order to publish spatial data and results on internet. The main contents and functionalities of this application will be presented too.
